Only six schools in the entire state earn an award. Two of those schools are from north central Wisconsin. It's an award based on leadership, sportsmanship and service. Stevens Point Area High School took the cake for one region of Wisconsin.
But it's a small school that earned the state title. It's Adams-Friendship, that's been named a grade above the rest.
The Spirit of Excellence award is presented by WASC, WEAC and AWSA.
Schools are judged on leadership training, community activities, and academics among others. Students highlight Adams-Friendship's community involvement.. extracurricular activities like student council and sports.. and hard work from both teachers and staff.
From this Journalism class deciding which articles to write, to an English class debate, this small town school isn't letting a recession slow them down.
Scott Willis, the student council advisor and social studies teacher, says, "A lot of schools have budget cuts these days, and our school district still allows us to do what they do. It's great they can support us for that."
And as the smallest school to win the award, they've got a lot to be proud of.
